The installation of the 4x4 drive, which includes a unique multi-element rear axle design, has involved modifications to the rear body section beneath the boot resulting in a slight reduction of the boot volume - from 528 to 428 litres in the basic configuration and to 1228 litres with the rear seats folded in the saloon model. In the estate, the volume of the boot has been reduced from 548 to 448 litres in the basic configuration and from 1512 to 1412 litres with the rear seats folded. Even with this slight reduction, the Octavia has no competitors in terms of the capacity of the boot in the 4x4 category. Add to this the excellent access to the luggage compartment, both in the saloon and the estate, and the Octavia is a clear winner.

Despite the prestigious character of both models, they are highly practical and are often used for commercial purposes because of their excellent driving characteristics in mountainous regions and under difficult driving conditions. For the same reasons, these models are also greatly appreciated for leisure and recreation applications.
All 4x4's have factory-fitted ABS/EDL. Left-hand drive models also have a mechanical brake assistant. In addition, models powered by the 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW come equipped with the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as standard. To satisfy demand on markets where the traffic drives on the left, such as Great Britain, Škoda Octavia 4x4 with the 1.8 20V Turbo/110 kW engine is also available with right-hand drive.
